About Us
The social workers and development practitioners in the district realized the need to address the problem that rural poor are in a state of dependency whereby they lack influence and control over decisions that affect their lives, wellbeing and resources. To meet these gaps as well as to respond to development needs and priorities in the country, Chartare Youth Club (CYC) was devised by the present chairperson Chandi Prasad Sharma on 22 July 1991 as an NGO in Baglung Municipality-09, Tityang (Tityang VDC ward no–9, Aduabari) in the historical house of Mr. Dandapani Upaddhyaya built by Pandit Ravi Prasad Upaddhyaya and was registered on 12 October 1992. Since then, the organization has gradually increased its activities over most of the VDCs in Baglung and achieved significant success in reducing poverty through empowering and educating communities for the socio-economic upliftment of rural and disadvantaged communities. The Government line agencies, as well as various national and international organizations, have been its supporting partners.
The ‘Char Tara’ stands for Mato, Bato, Pani, Khaldo (Soil, Trail, Arena, and Rain (STAR), which intends to build self-reliance communities. CYC mainly focuses in building and strengthening community organizations. Its emphasis and priority have been enabling poor communities in skills and experiences to clearly identify, analyses, and implement plans to remove or by pass the root obstacles which prevent them from sustainably working towards their vision, increasing their income, or meeting their own basic needs. The community managed micro finance and banking program, saving and credit schemes, enabling community participation in various social and infrastructure development initiatives are some examples.
The general assembly is held in every fifth years’ time on third Saturday of Chaitra according to Nepali calendar and elects its executive body for five years and meets every year for observing the General Assembly together for reviewing the program activities; to discuss and formulate yearly program plans and to approve annual budget for coming year.
Chartare Youth Club doesn’t prioritize the activities approved by only its members. It has its own value that all the activities should be approved by them for whom the activities have been run and will be run. So as to make all the people aware of its activities and give that information to all, it assures the participation of the targeted people and also has been publishing its tri-monthly magazine named GRAMEEN KANDARA’.
